That's how the professor made me feel.
She came in and talked for 20 minutes in Korean (you know like really fast, so I didn't really understand a lot) but I thought, well whatever, maybe she's just talking about general stuff and the class didn't really start yet. After 20 minutes everyone is supposed to introduce themselves, and I ask her "excuse me, is this class in Korean? I thought it was an English class and you've been only speaking Korean so far and I didn't get anything because it's really difficult to understand academic Korean and you are talking really quickly!" She said, no no, no problem, it is an English class indeed. Goes on to quiz me about myself (in Korean of course) and just goes on talking in Korean for f***ing 90 minutes. I felt like I'm gonna die and was thinking about leaving without saying a word. I mean she knows that I don't understand, it is an English class, so what, speak English! I demonstratively was either (a) drawing on my paper (b) taking care of my schedule book (c) sleeping, so you know she could see that I couldn't follow her class!
After 90 minutes she finally looked at me and said "oh yeah sorry, you know, I always give the first lesson in Korean and I NEVER had a student who couldn't speak Korean well enough so she couldn't follow my class. Why don't you speak Korean well enough???"
Seriously, it's an English-only class, so what sense does it make to hold the first lesson in Korean?? And how rude is it to do so when someone is in the class who doesn't know enough Korean?
I then asked her if she will go on for the next 90 minutes in Korean as well and she said yes. So I asked her if I can leave, because what sense does it make for me to stay?? Oh and suddenly she CAN switch to English. Not without saying something about me in Korean and letting everyone laugh about me first of course (rudest person on earth if you ask me).
Next thing she said: "Oh are you disappointed now because you thought I would go on in Korean and you wanted to leave early"
Was treated like a moron for the rest of the time (because you know, not perfectly understanding Korean equals being stupid).
Bad thing is, I cannot drop this class, so I'll have to go to this class straight from hell once every week and endure it for a terrible three hours. Let's hope it's in English at least next time!
The only thing which could appease me afterwards was a great dinner with Minji and Stephanie (before that we had our study group though, well let me tell you I didn't really feel like studying Korean today).
Food was great though, we had Galbi, which is also some kind of Korean barbecue (like Samgjopsal), but it is a lot less fatty and marinated.
