Then came the nice part. We went to a Korean drinking/eating place to enjoy some traditional Korean rice wine: Makgeolli. We were also supposed to have dinner there, so we didn't eat beforehand. It turned out though that the promised dinner was more of a snack than a full meal. We had some fried stuff, including tofu, vegetables, eggs, meat and spam. Makgeolli isn't really my taste, especially not on an empty stomach ;) It is not really strong alcohol though but nevertheless tastes quite bitter (and maybe a little bit sour?). Some people yesterday said it tasted like beer although to me it tastes very different from beer. Some Korean girls mixed it with Cider (= Sprite) so we tried that as well and it made the stuff a lot more bearable. At least I could then drink it without grimacing.
It was really noisy as well and fortunately we didn't stay that long but went to a bar afterwards. By that point I already saw myself being completely drunk after one beer because my stomach was so empty...but to my rescue very soon after our arrival a dish of french fries and other potato stuff miraculously appeared on our table!!! Afterwards it was a lot easier to tackle the beer :)
Natalia and me tackling the beer :) |
At my table I met a very nice Korean girl who lives in the dormitory next to me. It's the first time I've met a Korean living in the dorm, everyone else I asked lives outside...We will all go to the cinema together soon and hopefully meet often for dinner & other stuffs. I was the oldest person at our table, can you imagine?
We didn't go back to the dorm too late though...not because of the curfew but because we had to get up really early the next day for our first field trip...but more about that later :)
