Yesterday I had the second class of Introduction to Qualitative Research. All in all we are five people now and I am the only foreign student, but it doesn't really matter. We are all sitting around one big table in a circle, so it's really more like a study group than a lecture. Time passed quite quickly and we did just very basic stuff, which is only natural because it was the first "real" class.
Workload is a lot heavier than in Germany I think; we have to hand in a reader response paper about the assigned reading every week, present twice and develop and conduct our own research which we have to cover in our final paper. My presentation topics are (1) Coding and (2) Interaction Analysis.
I handed in the first reader response paper, which I think wasn't very well written. The chapters we had to read were so basic that I didn't really have a response to it (except that I think it was really really basic). It was only about how to structure a research paper, how to develop a research question and which problems might arise doing that...well, been there, done that...
But I guess the course will grow to be more demanding and I'm ok with doing some basic stuff. The professor is really good and very friendly, so I enjoy my time there :)
I suggested to go and have dinner together after one of the next classes and everyone thought it was a good idea. Even the professor wants to join. Let's see how this turns out! Looking forward to it!
