The Staircase Mistery

When walking around Hanyang University you can find this staircase:

The Mistery Staircase

Students usually only take the red left side and not the blue right side. It's very rare to see people walk up or down on the blue side. My Korean buddy told me that if you take the wrong side of the stairs you will fail your university exams! My plan was to take the right side today to prove them wrong, but somehow I didn't dare to ;)
Couldn't find out yet though why they actually believe in this and how this story originated.
Funny thing is, the writing on the right side is the name of the university ;)
