Rocking the Korean Gym!

This morning Stephanie and me went to Sadang to buy a book for our Korean study group (members: Stephanie and me; goal: rocking the placement test; next and first meeting: Thursday). The bookstore in Sadang was too small though and I ended up yet again in a stationery shop selling hundreds of cute things which I all want to have! After some time I managed to get out of the shop with still money left in my purse! I'll post some pictures of what I bought soon ;) Be prepared for absolute cuteness!
We then went to Kangnam to Kyobo bookstore (that's the third time I was there already) and found the book we were looking for. By then I was already starving and on the way back to the subway we went into a small restaurant called "Pomato". Well, on their logo is a picture of a tomato, so don't ask me why they call themselves pomato...
I had some Bibimbap :) Which consists of rice, spicy sauce and different vegetables, topped up with a fried egg.

Bibimbap: the rice is hidden under all the vegetables
Because of all the vegetables I think this is a very healthy meal and since it doesn't contain any meat it is very popular with vegetarians (who usually have quite a hard time in Korea!).
Talking about healthy...after resting in the dorm (because shopping and eating makes sleepy) I went to the gym which my mentor and me checked out yesterday, the Hanyang Health Club. I registered and completed my first workout! I have never been to any gym before but I think when the Korean class starts I'll be very stressed and doing sports is a nice compensation then (and I can stay in shape and still eat all the delicious Korean food). Now it's a little bit cold for me to go running outside and then it will be too hot and humid, so I guessed the best thing was to start in a gym straight away.

In this gym everyone wears the same sports uniform. When you come in, you pick one up from a stack of clean ones and when you leave you put them in a laundry basket (same with towels). The only thing you really need to bring yourself are your sports shoes. Guys wear a different uniform though (blue and gray) while girls wear different shades of red. I must have looked very funny, because when I work out I get a very red face so it matched the colors of the clothes ;) When you are a member of the gym you get your own small locker and can leave some of your stuff (like your shoes) there...I hope I understood that part right because otherwise someone will find my smelly sports shoes in their locker ;)

I first used the running machine for a very long time (that's why I wanted to go to the gym in the first place), and found out that:
a) I run faster and longer than most of the guys there
b) most of the Korean girls seem to prefer some kind of "power walking"
Afterwards I was cycling for around 20 more minutes, which was enough to make the way back to the dorm (over the mountain) quite trying ;)

Now I'm dead tired and since it's late here already anyways (remember the +8 hourse time difference), I'll go to sleep.

By the way:
mission printing: accomplished
mission reading book chapters for class tomorrow and writing reader response paper: accomplised

  1. I could totally survive in Korea by eating the vegetarian pizza (from one of your earlier posts) and bimbimbap!!! One day I'll come and visit you!

Oh, and please take a picture of you in the gym uniform!!!
